i have just bought a new Nikon D300 and was wondering how much i would get back if i was to claim this on tax through my own business? i currently live in Sydney Australia btw
it is a web design company. the camera is used to take photos of clients' venues, products, etc. to be placed onto the site being made for their needs.
Where you live is irrelevant. The question is, can you show that the purchase of the camera was part of your business operation?
On the basis of the information provided, I can answer no furtther.
Do you use your Camera for business purposes. To what extent do you use your camera for business purposes.
If you are a Truck Driver, you would get no deduction.
If you are a Florist, ytou would get so much as would be applicable to business use if you could substantiate business use.
If yopu are an undertaker you may get some deduction.
A deduction does not attach to what you buy, but rather what you do. Think about your question and ask a question relevant to what you really need to know.
The short answer would be NOTHING!!!!

provided the Nikon D300 is an allowable claim, by claiming, it doesn't mean you're gonna be getting any amounts back from paying for the item, it just basically means the price would be used to reduce your income, therefore you pay less tax.
