What are some of the top nikon cameras for sports photography under $ 1,500?

My mom says that she is going to get me a new camera. So I have looked at the nikon D300 (which is why I said under $ 1,500, the nikon D300 is $ 1,469, and by the looks of it, her getting the D300 is a maybe). I want to know if there are any other nikon cameras as good or almost as good as this camera, at a lower price.
I have heard people mention the D70, D80, and D90.
Please go into detail as much as possible.

For that money, I would opt for the D90 with its standard 18-105mm VR lens (that is equivalent to a 180mm telephoto lens on a film camera… That is a lot of lens, and the "kit" comes in at about 1200 or so. That leaves money for the UV Filter (to protect the lens) and a camera bag. If you are not used to using telephoto lenses, you are going to have real trouble shooting decent pics…camera movement is a biotch with telephotos! The lens is standard at about f4.5 in telephoto setting. The D90 has a focal plane shutter, shoots 4.5 pics per second in action mode (will also do movies)…and has the option of Live View for shooting! This one is really good where you have to shoot fast and easy…this camera is extremely fast on autofocusing, and has full manual over rides on all functions, including white balance, ISO, focus, aperature, and shutter…it also has shutter priority autofocus, aperature priority autofocus, etc. This is one hell of a lot of camera, and the price cannot be beat…you can force the ISO to 3200 !!!!! Normal shooting ISO ranges between 100 and 1600…very very fast! You no longer need the huge, heavy lenses for shooting. In sports shooting, you will rarely be afforded the luxury of a tripod for stability, so you need a very fast camera to offset camera movement. VR lenses are good for up to 3 shutter speeds once you learn how to use them!
The camera can grow with you, for there is a full range of lenses (all Nikon lenses fit this unit). Coming in at 12 megapixels, it is one fine camera, terrific at fast autofocus, and 11 differnet methods of autofocus you can set. It has a sports simple setting on the shutter/focus knob…how easy can it get? I seriously doubt you could outgrow this camera. Happy Holidays.

Which is the better camera Nikon D90 or D300?

I purchased the Nikon D300 even though I liked all the point and shoot features offered with the Nikon D90–The Ritz Camera salesman said I would be sorry if I settled for the D90. I plan to use the camera to take professional quality high school football and sports pictures for the local high school–only for the kids and websites– not a business! I have been playing with the D300– but I feel like I might have made a mistake. I plan to read the HUGE manual but so far my pictures are very average considering I just spent like $2k. ( I have taken better pictures with my pocket sized Sony Cybershot in all honesty!) I used the VR features but still…wonder if any one has an opinion about the D90 vs the D300. I am pretty savy and a quick learner so any helpful advice would be appreciated! I’m not giving up on the D300 just yet! lol

D300 is for prosummer
D90 is for consumer , this is a Mickey mouse for DSLR camera

Are lenses that fit the D90 Compatible with other Nikon Cameras such as the D700 or D300?

I’m looking to step into professional photography, studied at college etc.

I’m broke though, but I need a camera. So I shall get the D90. After much consideration. Such as, I live in a city and the D90 is light making it an excellent camera for street photography (often overlooked as a perk I might add).
The D90 will make an excellent back up camera when I can finally afford something more on par with professional spec.

But for as much reading as I’ve done a few things elude me, such as the true benefit of full frame. And a question which I’m sure every idiot but this one seems to know… which is whether the lenses that fit the D90 are/will be compatible with other Nikon SLRs.

I just can’t read anymore random reviews looking for the answer… someone please tell me.

Yes. All modern Nikon bodies use the same lens mount. The only thing is that if any of your lenses are "DX" then that means they’re only designed to project an image circle onto the smaller sensors found in cameras like the D90 and D300. They’ll still work with the D700 and D3, though the picture will be auto cropped to only use a portion of their much larger FX sensors equaling roughly 5 Megapixels.

The benefit of full frame is that you’re getting a sensor that’s actually the same size as a frame of 135 film. This means there’s no crop factor… lenses that were designed for standard 135 film cameras will have the same field of view. Also the much larger surface area means that they can collect more light, which leads to improved ISO performance and dynamic range.

Nikon D300?

Hello all Digital SLR friends. I’ve been posting a number of questions in this forum on DSLR and decided with most of your advices in mind to buy Nikon D300 with DX18-200 VR lens. Just got it yesterday, and I was one among the first in Thailand to get it, as it just arrives in Thailand a day earlier. This is a thank you message for all of your comments and suggestions. It’s really a great camera and my first DSLR. I had to take a one hour class with the agent to learn how to properly take care of it. It’s a complicated one.

Any chance your gunna post some pics so those of us who are still waiting can take a look and get even more anxious!?

What do I need to know about a Nikon D300 camera?

I have been doing some photography for about a year now with a simple little Canon powershot. But while thinking about getting a nicer one (The Nikon D3000 DSLR camera) My friend, who is also a photographer, told me to learn more about cameras before my purchase. I discovered I actually knew nothing about ‘real’ cameras, such as Shutter Speed, Aperture, lens, and filters. I kind of looked up some facts about Shutter Speed and Aperture, but I have no idea wat a filter even does. Can anyone help me better understand how to work these things, or better, provide me a legit website that could teach me accurately how to use one?
