If you just want one lens, the 18-200 mm VR will do it.

If you are into landscapes, the 12-24 mm is a killer lens

If you are into shooting close-ups, then the 105 mm VR will be a great choice.

An all around good lens for the D300 is the Nikkor 18-200mm Lens:

http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-18-200mm-3-5-5-6-ED-IF-Zoom-Nikkor/dp/B000BY52NU/ref=pd_bbs_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1221704319&sr=8-1

It takes you from decent wide angle, to pretty nice telephoto. It’s like an 18-55mm lens, and a 55-200mm lens combined. This is a nice lens to use for just all around photography in general. If you were doing something particularly, like wide-angle, or macro, then you know you need to get other lenses. Other lenses are available here:

Thanks for reading!
